How We Chose Our Top Picks
We chose the best portable solar chargers based on a few criteria:
- Consumer feedback
- Eco-friendly materials
- Additional features (carabiner, flashlight, etc.)
Since most people are using these devices while doing an outdoor activity, we thought the items listed above were important for a solar charger.
The Dizaul 5000mAh portable solar charger is our pick for the best solar phone charger. I searched for the best solar charger before writing this article because I wanted something for my hiking trips to recharge my GoPro and other USB rechargeable devices.
This is the solar powered battery charger I chose, and I’ve been very pleased with its performance. It has dual USB ports, which have rubber caps to keep them protected from water and dirt. The Dizaul only weighs about 2.5 pounds, so it doesn’t add much weight to my pack, and it can clip onto my bag’s strap so it can be charging while I’m hiking.
It takes about two hours to charge a smartphone. The Dizaul charges best in strong sunlight, and once you’re back on the grid, it takes six to seven hours to recharge by AC. One word of caution, make sure you do not leave this or any lithium-ion battery-powered product in a hot car because it could drastically decrease the battery’s charge.
The Dizaul is our pick for best solar cell phone charger because of the numerous positive consumer reviews and its eco-friendly materials.
RavPower was a close contender for our best solar-powered phone charger but came up a little short. We still think it’s an excellent compact solar charger; it’s just a bit more expensive than some other picks. RavPower is designed similarly to our #3 pick, Anker.
Like our other top two, this solar iPhone charger has two USB ports for you to charge up to two devices at a time. This compact solar charger has a polyester canvas, which makes the device water resistant. It can be hooked to your pack, tent or a tree as it charges up and weighs less than one pound.
If you want a solar panel phone charger with more solar panel surface area, this Anker solar USB charger is a great option for you. The charger has two USB ports and unfolds into three panels for solar charging. Folded up, the solar battery charger is 1.1″ thick and opened it measures 0.2″, so it is ultra-thin.
It weighs less than one pound and has stainless-steel eye-holes on each corner, which allow you to attach it to your hiking pack. This gives it the ability to charge as you summit a mountain. It has a polyester canvas which offers some water protection, but not as much as our pick for the best portable solar charger.
Other Solar Phone Charger Reviews
Below are other solar phone chargers reviews that didn’t make our top three but may be worth your consideration.
This Ruipu solar charger is another great product that we reviewed but didn’t make our top three list. It can charge an iPhone about seven times or a tablet four times. The Ruipu has three USB ports and takes about 45 minutes to charge an iPhone.
It has a built-in flashlight, and the battery pack can be recharged by sunlight, USB cable from a computer, by lamp or adapter. It takes about seven to eight hours for the charger to be fully charged by AC, and it weighs less than one pound. The Ruipu didn’t make our top three because it’s missing some features that others have, including waterproofing and an attached carabiner.
Solar Powered Cellphone Charger
If you are looking for a solar powered phone case, these are some good options from EnerPlex, which dominates this category. However, most solar phone charger reviews of the products above are better than the ones listed below, so it may be better to go with one of them.
